Associate Klasien Versteeg

Klasien Versteeg (admitted to the Bar in 2006) mainly handles economic criminal law cases (including (medium-sized) environmental law cases and criminal law cases as a result of work-related accidents). She also handles traffic law and general (Fiscal Information and Investigating Service-) criminal law cases focussing on bribery and forgery of documents. Furthermore, she assists investigating officers during investigations of work-related shooting and other violent incidents and suspicion of perjury and forgery of documents. Klasien forms part of the police’s national group of lawyers that consists of 20 experienced criminal defence lawyers and which was established to render specialist legal assistance to police officers.

Education and career

Klasien earned a Master's in Criminal Law and Encyclopaedia & Philosophy of law at Leyden University. Following her graduation, she joined Sjöcrona Van Stigt. In 2012, she completed the postgraduate Criminal Law specialisation at the Willem Pompe Institute. She left the legal profession in 2013 and was posted through the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations to the advisory body for whistle-blowers for a period of one year. There she mainly advised people who were confronted with possible criminal acts in their surroundings. She joined Sjöcrona Van Stigt again in August 2014.

Klasien forms part of the editorial staff of the Nederlandse Jurisprudentie Feitenrechtspraak Strafzaken, which focusses on the most important judgments of the district courts and courts of appeal in the field of criminal law.
